New Zealand Honour Injera & Ambaka After Retirement Announcement

New Zealand's men's rugby sevens team honoured both Collins Injera and Willy Ambaka after the two announced their retirement.

In a video shared by New Zealand Sevens on its Twitter page on Saturday, January 28, the All Blacks Captain Sam Dickson is seen giving a farewell speech to Ambaka.

All Blacks defeated Shujaa 33-0 at the Sydney Sevens tournament in a Pool B match.

“Willy and Collins, I know Collins is not here but just on behalf of the All Blacks Sevens just want to wish you the best after this. Both of you have had an unbelievable career. Whatever you have done for Kenyan rugby won't be forgotten.

Ambaka was also gifted with two All Blacks jerseys, his and Injeras.

“Legends of the game. Congratulations on such incredible careers Willyambaka and 
Collins Injera.

“It was an honour for our team to be able to battle against you over so many years. Wishing you and your whānau nothing but the best for whatever comes next,” the statement by New Zealand read.

Ambaka announced his retirement on Thursday, January 26, after 13 years as a player at the age of 32.

He announced that once the ongoing Sydney Sevens conclude so will his career. Shujaa is set to take on Spain in the ninth-place playoffs.

Collins Injera announced his decision to hang his boots on January 14, ending his career having scored the second most tries in the World Rugby 7s series.
