Novak Djokovic Wins Australian Open for a Record 10th Time

World number one Novak Djokovic cemented himself as the King of the Australian Open after clinching his 10th Grand Slam title at the event on Sunday afternoon, January 29.

Djokovic, who did not take part in last year’s edition due to the pandemic drama overcame Greek international Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 7-6, 7-6 in the final staged at Melbourne Park.

The 35-year-old did not hold his tears after being confirmed the champion yet again.

He sobbed uncontrollably as he celebrated the monumental victory alongside his team.

Djokovic’s win made him equal Rafal Nadal’s Grand Slams record of 22 titles. No one has won more titles than the duo in the history of Grand Slams tournaments.

Speaking after lifting the trophy, Djovokic lauded Tsitsipas for posting an excellent performance the entire season.

“First of all, I have to say I have been touched by Tsitsipas' words. Thank you so much Tsitsipas for being so kind and respectful.

“I think we both agree that we are on the court we are fierce competitors and we want to win against each other. But it doesn’t mean that we should not respect each other.

"So, I acknowledge your efforts and I congratulate you on an amazing tournament,” ended Djokovic.

On the other hand, Tsitsipas described the Serbian tennis player as the greatest of all time. 

“He is one of the greatest in our sport and I think is the greatest to ever hold the tennis racquet,” he commented. 

Djokovic won the prestigious title in front of record attendance. More than 45,832 tennis fans graced the final, smashing the previous record of 31,020 set in 2020.
