Reigning Olympics silver medallist Hyvin Kiyeng edged World champion Beatrice Chepkoech champion to win the women’s 3,000m steeplechase at the Olympic Games in Kasarani on Friday June 18.

In another race, World 10,000m silver medallist Geoffrey Kamworor defeated  the Commonwealth Games 10,000m bronze medallist Rodgers Kwemoi to book for Olympic Games with Rhonex Kipruto dropping out in the eighth lap.

Kiyeng clocked 9:24.5 ahead of Chepkoech’s  9:25.0 to book for Olympics slots. Former Commonwealth Games champion Purity Kirui was third in 9:26.6.

In 10,000m men, Kamworor, won the in 27:01.06 ahead of Kwemoi who timed 27:05.51 to gain automatic qualification as Weldon Kipkirui came in third in 27:24.73.

In the Men 20km walk race, reigning Africa champion Samuel Gathimba booked a place in the Tokyo Olympics ahead of Simon Wachira.
