Kenya Team for Deaf Athletics Championships Named

A team of 36 Athletes selected to compete at the World Deaf Athletics Championships in Lublin, Poland has been unveiled after a two-day qualification event that took place on Monday 21st June. The 2 day event, held at Nyayo National Stadium by the Deaf Athletics Association of Kenya (DAAK) saw amazing performances including a showstopper by Kilfi based athlete, Simon Menza in the men's 100m, 200m and 400m.

During the Men's 200m race, Menza finished first crossing the line in 23.3 seconds. Runners up were David Wamira and Charles Muthama who set a time of 23.7 seconds and 24.0 seconds respectively. In the 400m race, Menza yet again stole the show after crossing the line first in 50.9 seconds followed by Kisii based, Isaac Atima 51.3 seconds and Nyeri's George Waweru, 51.6 seconds. 

In the Women’s 100m race, sisters Beryl Wamira and Rael Wamira also booked their ticket slots to Poland by clocking first and second position times respectively. Beryl managed a time of 12.7 seconds while Rael, 13.4 sections. 

We the team up and ready for the championships set to begin on August 23rd, DAAK Secretary General Bernard Banja promopted for timely communication from the government concerning the start of a training camp.
