Training sessions picked up pretty well when Kenya Women's Sevens team Lionesses had their first out field training session on Wednesday 14th July. The First batch of the Lionesses kicked off the day with an early morning gym session just to get them shaking off some jet lag after a long flight from Nairobi.
Apparently, the squad is the third set of athletes to arrive in Japan after the men's sevens rugby team and also the women's volleyball team, malkia strikers. The team still being the first batch/half to arrive in Kurume City, will be getting ready to welcome the second batch who are expected to arrive today evening 15th July. A traveling schedule that is quite staggered due to the Covid-19 restrictions put in place.
Head Coach Felix Oloo was quite impressed on how the squad was energized and all high spirits saying that they first needed to have a light session after a long travel. Oloo, also being optimistic, said that even though they are lined up against some of the best teams in the world, the team will still show their competitive side. The squad has a bigger test ahead after being placed in Pool A that boasts of huge names such as; New Zealand, Russia and Great Britain.
The Lionesses' opener game will be against New Zealand and further ahead, they will be looking to be part of the top two teams in each group that will proceed to the Main Cup Quarter final. The best two-third placed teams will also earn a ticket to the Quarters.
