Developed from street basketball, 3x3 basketball is considered to be the world's number 1 urban team sport. Interesting right? Well back in 2007, the international Basketball Federation (FIBA) formally took up the exciting game and adopted its complete rules. The game would later on be featured as a debut sport in Singapore at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games.
The game is quite interesting and unique since it's played on half a regular five-a-side basketball court, with each team shooting into a single hoop. Each of the teams consist of 4 players, 3 active on the court and 1 as a substitute. A coin toss will always determine which team begins the game offensively. Shots made at the 3 point line are much different in this game since your team only earns 2 points unlike conventional basketball.
The winner in this game is determined by the scores. The team with the highest scores at the end of the 10-minute period, or the first team to reach 21 points wins. If the scores are tied after the 10th minute mark, the game goes into overtime with the first team to score two points declared the winner.
The juice of the sport is undoubtedly its fast pace. Apparently, there are no breaks after a point is scored or even a foul. The team on the offense has to take a shot within 12 seconds from possession of the ball. Coaches on the other hand are not allowed to be at Courtside, so players must build up their own game plans and strategies. Players must also have good reflexes, coordination as the physical attributes of the sport are extremely essential and demanding.
