Missing Ugandan Weightlifter Has Been Found

Julius Ssekitoleko

Ugandan Weightlifter, Julius Ssekitoleko has been found after going missing since July 16th. The athlete had disappeared from a pre - Olympic training Camp in Izumisano, Western Japan. Police in central Japan said the 20-year-old weightlifter, Ssekitoleko was in the city of Yokkaichi, 169 Kilometers east of his host town in western Japan. The Police are currently interviewing the athlete and at least fill up some puzzles especially when Ssekitoleko left a note behind saying that he did not want to return to his country.

The note also asked members of his delegation to give his belongings to his wife in Uganda. According to AFP, Police said Ssekitoleko had travelled to Nagoya in central Japan and then to nearby Gifu prefecture, before moving south to Mie. "Today, the man was found in Mie Prefecture with no injuries and no involvement in any crime," an Osaka police official said.

“He was found in a house belonging to people who have a connection to the man. He did not offer resistance. He was talking frankly. We are still questioning him about his motive.” Added the Official. Apparently, Ssekitoleko did not meet Olympic standards in the latest international rankings released after he arrived in Japan and was due to return home this week.

Uganda’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Henry Okello Oryem said that Ugandan authorities had been informed that Ssekitoleko had been found and was being questioned. He also said an apology was sent to the Japanese Government adding that the 20 year old's actions were unacceptable conduct and treachery.
