The Olympics have surely come to a rough start for Team Kenya more so after losing more matches in the wake of today. Kenya's Faith Ogallo made her Olympic debut in a Taekwondo bout that saw her loose to Serbia's Milica Mandic 13-0 in the round of 16. The social works student at Kibabii University had her chin tested to the max by Milica who came out with a seasoned and outstanding repertoire having won gold back in 2012 at the London Olympics.
Ogallo tried her best but the skill gap between her and the Serbian proved to be too much. The Kenyan had to exist the competition after loosing 13-0 over 3 rounds without even registering a single point. On the the other sporting end, Shujaa went down having lost all of its Pool C games. The Kenya sevens team kicked off their Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games campaign on a wrong note with two narrow group stage losses to USA and South Africa, that prematurely ended their hopes for a medal at the Summer Games.
Today early morning, the rugby boys hoped for a different turn of events but a game with the Irish had them on the loosing end once again 7-12. Amonde and Injury were in the starting lineup but right after 42 seconds from Kickoff, the Irish team drew first blood when 22 year old Lennox Hugo scored a try. Harry McNulty followed up on the score board as Billy Dardis put in a converted kick that made it 12-0. Kenya tried hard to get back in the game but it was deemed too late when Vincent Onyala scored a try that was later converted by Daniel Taabu, sealing the game at 12-7 victory to Ireland.
Team Kenya is yet to register a win at the Olympics and more eyes will be on today's events as Malkia Strikes gear up to face South Korea at 3:45p.m. In the Boxing event, two of our Kenyan athletes, Heavyweight Elly Ajowi and Welterweight Elizabeth Akinyi will also be put to be the test as their bouts are scheduled for 12:36p.m and 2:12p.m respectively.
