Jacob Ingebrigsten had his dream come true at the Olympics as he beat fierce rival Timothy Cheruiyot to win gold in the men's 1500m at the Olympics.

The Norwegian star broke clear of Cheruiyot with 150m to go to win in a new Olympics record time of 3:28.32 ahead of Cheruiyot who came in second in a time of 3:29.01. Josh Kerr of Britain recorded a personal time of 3:29.05 to take bronze.

Abel Kipsang improved his personal best of of 3:29:56 to claim fourth spot.

In his 13th career race with Timothy Cheruiyot, Ingebrigtsen finally beat the Kenyan to land the Olympic 1500m title.

Cheruiyot could not match the pace of the outstanding Norwegian and perhaps it signaled a new era in the distance.

There were PBs for the next three athletes too - Abel Kipsang (3:29.56), Adel Mechaal (3:30.77) and USA's Cole Hocker (3:31.40).

The first seven men finished inside the pre-2021 Olympic record time (3:32.07).
