Kenya’s Tennis National Team will face Benin for the Davis Cup at the smash Tennis Academy in Cairo, Egypt on Saturday, August 14.

This comes after Ghana fortified the doubles on Friday, August 13, granting Kenya a 3-0 win.

Ismail Changawa and Ibrahim Yego scored for Team Kenya. The play off will determine the top two teams.

Egypt will also be facing Mozambique on Saturday, August 14.

The winning teams will face winners from other zones to determine who will make it to group 2.

Kenya will be represented by Ismael Changawa, Kevin Cheruiyot, Albert Njogu and Ibrahim Kibet with Derrick Ominde listed as the reserve player.

The seven nations competing in Africa Group 3 include Algeria, Benin, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique and Rwanda.

The seven countries are drawn into two groups. One group has four teams and the other group has three teams.

Pool A consists of the hosts Egypt, Algeria and Benin after Madagascar withdrew from participating in the tournament.

Nations finishing in the top two of each group will play-off for promotion, with the winner of Group 1 facing the runner-up of Group B, and the winner of Group B facing the runner-up of Group A. The winners of that playoff will move into Group 2.

Kenya’s top ranked player Changawa stated that he is confident that the team is relishing the challenge of competing after losing the playoff to Indonesia in Jakarta, Indonesia, last year.

“The boys are determined to correct the errors of last year. We have trained well, and we are looking forward to the competition. It is going to be tough, but we are more than ready,” stated Changawa.
