Barcelona have officially signed Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia and Rey Manaj after the club’s Spanish defender, Gerald Pique, agreed to have his salary cut.
The club has been undergoing a financial crisis which led to the exit of the Argentine forward, Lionel Messi.
The club released a statement on their official site that read “Barcelona FC is able to register Memphis, Eric and Rey to play in the Spanish Liga de Futbol Professional.
“This has been made possible thanks to an agreement with Gerard Pique whereby the Barca second captain’s salary has been substantially reduced,” the statement further read.
Barcelona also stated that they’re continuing to work with two of the other captains, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, to adapt their salaries to the club’s current situation. And it must be noted that both players are totally and utterly willing to cooperate.
Barcelona’s new signings will mean that all of the first team players will be available for selection by the team's head coach, Ronald Koeman, for the opening Liga fixture against Real Sociedad on Sunday, August 14.
On the other hand, Sergio Arguero has yet to be registered by Barca, but the La Liga giants are in no rush to do so as the Argentine striker has been ruled out for 10 weeks due to injury.
