Former World number one Roger Federer has announced that he is going to be out of the game for several months due to his knee surgery.

The Swiss posted on his  Instagram that he hoped the surgery would give him a chance to return to action.

“I’ll be on crutches for many weeks and also out of the game for many months, so it’s going to be difficult of course in some ways, but at the same time I know it’s the right thing to do because I want to be healthy, I want to be running around later as well again and I want to give myself a glimmer of hope to return to the tour in some shape or form,” stated Feder.

The 40-year-old underwent two knee surgeries in February and May 2021. But despite having those surgeries, he managed to play five tournaments in one season.

“I am realistic, don’t get me wrong. I know how difficult it is at this age right now to do another surgery and try it. However, I want to be healthy, I will go through the rehab process also with a goal while I’m still active, which I think is going to help me during this long period of time,” he further stated.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion who was knocked out in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in July 2021 and then missed the Tokyo Olympics stated that he would miss the US open which is slated to run from August 30 to September 12, 2021.

At the end of the video, Feder thanked his fans for the continued support and motivation.

“To my fans, you guys are incredible, thank you for thinking about me. I’ll update you as I move along with my rehab. I wish you all the best, and I’ll check in with you soon," said Feder.
