For the longest time now the Nyanza region of Kenya has been well known for producing legendary sportsmen across all sporting activities in Kenya and have proceeded in putting the country on the global map in sports.

Famously known for the birth of players who dominate in their local clubs and even on the international level such as Peter Dawo,Dennis Oliech, Kenneth Muguna and many others the region has been the motherland of many soccer players in the country.

Despite the richness in talent Nyanza region has not had proper sporting facilities to facilitate the growth of talents efficiently.

Due to devolution sports infrastructure has grown all over the country with county governments such as machakos county building a standardized sports facility that would see the national teams and local teams use it to promote sports within the region.

Nyanza however has not been left out since it has experienced a steady development of sports infrastructure but their construction has been going on at a snail's pace.

The region will now be boosted with a Ksh 415 million  to complete the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Mamboleo Kisumu county.

The Kisumu County Director of Sports infrastructure yesterday confirmed that the stadium is currently 85% complete and the construction process would fasten up after the financial boost they received.

The County Director of Sports is hopeful that the stadium will be complete by the end of this month. When complete, the stadium will have an athletics running track, football and rugby pitch, conference facilities, VIP pavilion and 10 stands that can hold up to 20,000 fans.

Currently the clubs from that part of the country that participate in the FKF Premier League use the Moi Stadium which is not in good shape and the creation of the new facility in Mamboleo will be a big boost to the sports fraternity in the region.
