AC Milan forward Mario Mandžukić has donated his March salary to charity because he never made an appearance at the club this entire month after he suffered an injury.

Mandžukić has only played 158 minutes for the Italian club since joining in January from Juventus. The 34-year-old Croatian was forced to miss out on the entire March with a muscle injury.

Milan president Paolo Scaroni said the money would go to Fondazione Milan, a charity foundation in Milan that helps children.

The club president applauded the act showcased by the Croatian forward, defining it as an exceptional gesture which demonstrates the ethics and professionalism of Mario Mandzukic and his respect for Milan.

The former Juventus attacker arrived on a free transfer in January and played four games with Milan until he suffered a muscular problem. He was back on the bench in the 3-1 win over Parma last time, but has missed seven out of 12 possible League games since his return to Serie A.

Milan currently sit second in Serie A, 11 points behind local rivals Inter Milan. They were recently knocked out of the Europa League by Manchester United, losing their round-of-16 tie 2-1 on aggregate.
