The top four race in the English Premier League  got a bit tighter on Monday night as defending champions Liverpool FC lost two valuable points against Leeds United at Elland Road.

In what was a must win for the Reds, they had to settle for a point as Marcelo Bielsa's side scored a dramatic 87th minute equaliser to earn a 1-1 draw.

On the field, Jurgen Klopp's team was looking to move back into the top four in the Premier League, starting the match three points behind fourth-placed West Ham United and two behind fifth-placed Chelsea.

Sadio Mane broke the deadlock in the 31st minute ending a run of nine Premier League games without scoring when Trent Alexander Arnold laid a ball off to the Senegal international to sweep home and give his team the lead before both teams headed to the locker rooms.

The efforts of Marcelo Bielsa's men were not in vain, as Llorente headed in a deserved equalizer goal for Leeds in the 87th minute to put the brakes on a return to the top four campaign for Liverpool.

The Merseyside Red are currently placed at sixth position after playing their 32nd fixture of the premier league with only two points behind fourth placed Westham United and a point behind Chelsea who featured in the FA Cup Semi Finals over the weekend and now have a game in hand in the premier league fixture.

The gap in points between Leicester City FC who are 3rd placed in the table and Liverpool who are placed 6th is very narrow as they are splitted apart with only 3points.After yesterday's stumble by liverpool their quest for the top four position will remain threatened as the teams look sharp towards the end of the premier league fixtures.

The 2019/2020 Premier league Champions will however be expected to shift their focus on the next match where they host Newcastle FC at Elland Road on Saturday.
