Gor Mahia players have downed their tools once again, demanding for three month salary arrears.

Earlier in the week, it was reported that they were threatening to go on strike  but assistant coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo said that “they were given some days off.”

The reigning premier league champions players are demanding three months salary arrears amidst a halt of sports activities by the government to help curb the spread of coronavirus.

The financial situation at the club has been wanting in the last few years and the current pandemic has made it even worse. Botched CAF club competitions campaigns, no fans in the stadia and dependance on one sponsor(Betsafe) have made operations at the club very difficult and the latest development is a sign of tougher days to come if the current situation prevails.

With all sporting facilities closed, the players have been asked to conduct individual training from home and upload their progress on the club’s WhatsApp group. However, this is getting tough for the players who say that they cannot even afford data to upload the videos.

One of the players has revealed to Nation Sports that times are tough for them and nobody is replying to their pleas on the social media platform.

“The club's WhatsApp group is silent and nobody is communicating to us. It is true players have resorted to finding other ways of surviving during these harsh economic times,” said one of the distressed players.

“I have decided to move on with my life and my parents are assisting me pay rent and with food stuff from the countryside. If sports continues to be suspended and the government doesn’t unlock the country, I will have no option but to relocate to my rural home ,” another player said.

K’Ogalo have made a bad start to the 2020/21 FKF Premier League season and are currently 7th on the log with 22 points after 14 matches.
