Record Harambee Stars Wins in History

Harambee Stars
Harambee Stars players celebrate a goal in their 3-0 win over Ethiopia in an Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier played at the Kasarani Stadium in 2018

The Kenya National Football team, Harambee Stars, has always been synonymous with not so impressive results, especially after their botched FIFA World Cup and African Cup of Nations Qualification campaigns.

Nonetheless, the team has occasionally posted positive results, some of which have gone down into history books.

Teamkenya.co.ke takes a look at some instances when the Stars went on a goal-scoring spree.

Kenya vs Djibouti

One of Harambee Stars largest score lines came in Kenya’s 9-1 win over Djibouti in August 1998 at the Kasarani Stadium, under the tutelage of coach Abdul Majid.

Sammy Okoth, who has most recently been appointed by the FKF Caretaker Committee as the Harambee Starlets Technical Director, scored a hat trick in the match. Maurice Sunguti, Boniface Ambani and Francis Oduor “Killer” scored two goals each.

Kenya vs Seychelles

In November 2011, during a preliminary qualifier for the Africa Cup of Nations, Kenya beat Seychelles 4-0. Brian Mandela, Dennis Oliech, Titus Mulama, and Victor Wanyama were on target for the Stars. Francis Kimanzi was at the helm of the team then.

Kenya vs Mauritania

In March 2003, Kenya mastered a 4-0 win over Mauritania in an Africa Cup of Nations Qualification match at the Nyayo Stadium, under the tutelage of Jacob "Ghost" Mulee.

Former Stars Captain Robert Mambo scored a brace on the day, with Paul Oyuga and Dennis Oliech also getting their names on the scoresheet.

Kenya vs Tanzania

Harambee Stars have won and lost to Tanzania in equal measure, but one win that stood out was a 4-0 win in March 2003 at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Titus Mulama scored two goals within the first five minutes, before Dennis Oliech and Edward Karanja also added the tally with a goal apiece. Jacob "Ghost" Mulee was the team's coach at the time.

Kenya vs Uganda

Against arch-rivals Uganda, Kenya also pulled up a 4-1 win in August 2004 at the City Stadium, with coach Jacob "Ghost" Mulee at the helm at the time. John Baraza hit a brace, to add onto a goal apiece by Mark Sirengo and James Omondi.

Kenya vs Ethiopia

Most recently, Kenya completed a memorable return to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations with a 3-0 win over Ethiopia in October 2018, at the Kasarani Stadium. Michael Olunga, Eric Johanna and Victor Wanyama scored for the Sébastien Migné side.

The win was followed up with goodies from Deputy President William Ruto, who promised to honour Ksh50 Million pledge if the team qualified for the African Cup of Nations.
