
The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) selected new officials on Tuesday night despite the challenges that were experienced going into the elections.
Ian Mugambi was elected as the new secretary general after defeating several other candidates. He garnered 18 votes to pip his closest competitor Raymond Olendo who registered 13 votes.
Among the four candidates who were vying for the director’s position, Leslie Mwangale and Oscar Mango's bids were successful.

Mwangale and Mango got 16 and 23 votes respectively to beat Hillary Itela and Charles Chege who finished third and fourth.
In the vice-chairperson contest, Moses Ndale garnered 20 votes to defeat Peris Mukoko who got 11 votes.
The current KRU treasurer Joshua Aroni managed to retain his position after he was elected unopposed.
Speaking after the elections, KRU chairperson Oduor Gangla hinted at amending the Constitution.

“I am pleased that we were able to hold our elections today and run our business. It was a tough meeting because of a lot of legal issues but with the guidance of the Sports Registrar and the rugby fraternity we were able to come up with a solution."
“The members came up with a task force to ensure compliance with the Sports Act. They will have to look at our constitution and the act as well and if there are any gaps, to fill them," he was quoted by Capital Sports.
Kenya rugby 7s aka Shujaa are set to feature at the 2022 Rugby World Cup scheduled to take place in Cape Town South Africa from Friday, September 9 to September 11.
