The North Eastern region risks missing out on the 2022 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national games after failing to host their regional finals due to lack of funds.

According to Standard Digital, the post-primary learning institutions from the counties of Mandera, Garrissa and Wajir were supposed to battle it out for tickets to the national games but the qualifiers were called off at the last minute.

The regional finals were slated for Sunday, September 4 and Monday, September 5.

Apart from Garissa county, Mandera and Wajir had successfully held their county finals and were ready to participate in the regional finals.

Some of the schools that won various disciplines in the two counties including Wajir Boys secondary school are trying to raise funds to travel to Nakuru to represent the region.

In other news, newly crowned Nairobi region football champions Waylight Secondary school were disqualified after they were found to have broken KSSSA regulations.

Waylight had narrowly beaten Highway secondary school 1-0 in the regional finals but it was later discovered that they had fielded a player who was not eligible to play for them.

Nairobi region chairman Maurice Okumu disclosed that Highway filed an appeal accusing their opponents of breaking the rules of the tournament. After investigations were conducted, their claims were discovered to be true and thus Waylight was disqualified.

The national term two games are scheduled to kick off on Friday, September 9 at Nakuru Boys High School after a two-year break caused by the pandemic.
