I Had No Tough Race: Omanyala Speaks on 2022 Season

Commonwealth Games and Africa 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala concluded his season with a third-place finish at the Memorial Borisa Hanžekovića meeting in Zagreb, Croatia.

On Sunday, September 11, Omanyala completed his 25th race of the season in the 100m. The 26-year-old sprinter has run in under 10 seconds in six of his races this season.

The Commonwealth gold winner set his season’s best with a time of 9.85 seconds, after winning the Kip Keino Classic on May 7, at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

In an interview with TeamKenya.co.ke, Omanyala gave an insight on how his 2022 season has been and upcoming plans ahead of the season’s break.

TeamKenya.co.ke: What was your toughest race?

Omanyala: I had no tough race this year. Every race has been an opportunity for me to shine and continue to give hope to young and upcoming talent.

TeamKenya.co.ke: Aside from the VISA complications that you experienced earlier in the year, what other challenges have you faced in the season?

Omanyala: I had an oblique muscle injury just before the African championships. That was a challenge but we managed.

TeamKenya.co.ke: What was your biggest accomplishment?

Omanyala: Winning three gold medals. African championships and Commonwealth Games.

TeamKenya.co.ke: What would you like the new administration to focus on?

Omanyala: Let the government continue supporting sports.

TeamKenya.co.ke: What will you be doing during the break?

Omanyala: I have not figured anything out yet for my break. What I know is I will spend more time with family now that I have been travelling since February 2022.
