
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) launched investigations into a case in which Malian players engaged in a fist-fight after their defeat in the hands of Serbia at the ongoing women’s World Cup in Australia.
In a video that has gone viral, two Malian players are seen exchanging blows near a press conference center as their team mates try to separate them.
It is not yet clear what caused the scrimmage between the two players who have been identified as Kamite Elisabeth and Salimatou Kourouma.

However, the world basketball governing body has issued a statement stating that they will decide the disciplinary action to be taken against the duo once they are done with their investigations.
“FIBA acknowledged today that there was an altercation between Mali players in the mixed zone following the Group B game Serbia-Mali at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022.
“Following the incident, FIBA has opened an investigation. Once the investigation is concluded, FIBA will decide on any applicable disciplinary measures,” read a statement from FIBA.
Mali are on the verge of being bundled out of the global showpiece after a 81-68 thrashing in the hands of Serbia.
The team which made it to the tournament after the withdrawal of their West African counterparts Nigeria have not yet registered a win in Sydney.
They are set to end their 2022 World Cup campaign against Canada who have already booked a slot in the quarterfinals.
Some of the other teams that have qualified for the quarterfinals include China, Puerto Rico, France, Brazil, Serbia, Belgium and the favorites United States.
