FIFA president Gianni Infantino has received criticism after featuring in a match with Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) officials.

On Tuesday, October 18, Infantino together with his staff played a match with PSSI employees at the Madya Stadium.

The match received criticism from Kenyans online who faulted the FIFA boss for participating in a football event in the midst of the recent Kanjuruhan stadium tragedy that claimed 133 lives.

Many netizens argued that both football organisations did not empathise with the families of the deceased.

“I totally agree that it's better to play fun football instead of solving the Kanjuruhan tragedy. Why do you have empathy? for the score lives lost 130-0 conscience,” a user named whoa_luthfi commented.

“The league stopped to honor the victims of the Kanjuruhan tragedy, but the group of PSS instead shouted for fun football,” a tweet from MazRiyadi read.

Prior to the match, Infantino had deliberated with President Joko Widodo and had made arrangements to demolish and rebuild the Kanjuruhan Stadium.

In addition, the duo affirmed that significant changes would be seen in the management of football in the country. Indonesia Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali was also in attendance.

Infantino also assured the President that FIFA would help Indonesia in the transformation of football in the country.

The incident saw a total of 40 children lose their lives making it one of the world’s deadliest sports disasters.
