
Kakamega senator Boniface Khalwale announced on Sunday, November 20, 2022, that he will honour Harambee Stars legend Wilberforce Mulamba by wearing a Brazilian jersey printed with the latter’s name during this FIFA World Cup season.
The senator started by congratulating Kenya Premier League side AFC Leopards for registering a win in their first match of the 2022/2023 season.
Khalwale also recognized Ababu Namwamba, the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, for the good work that he has been doing since assuming the role.

“Kudos AFC Leopards for your inaugural Premier League 2-0 win against Ulinzi Stars. Ababu Namwamba is committed to the revival of soccer.
“At this year's World Cup, I am wearing my Brazilian yellow jersey embroidered with the name of Kenyan greatest no.10 of all time, Wilberforce Mulamba,” read a statement from Khalwale.
His fans reacted to the social media post, with some of them joking that he should stick to Bullfighting.
Others urged the popular politician to talk to AFC Leopards stakeholders to change the club's home ground from Nairobi to Western Kenya.
"We need to bring this club back to Western. Where 99 percent of its fanbase live," read a statement from a user named Peleg Amkoya.
Mulamba is one of the greatest players to have ever don the AFC Leopards and Harambee Stars jerseys.
The attacking midfielder who was nicknamed "Maradona" was an accurate passer and excellent dribbler.
Wilberforce, who played behind the likes of Tom Omboko and Joseph Masika scored a total of 137 goals for Ingwe before hanging his boots in 1991. He is the club's all-time top scorer.
