Eliud Kipchoge failed to secure the 2022 World Athletics of the Year Award despite producing brilliant performances throughout the season.
The 37-year-old was named in the finalist's list alongside Norwegian international Jacob Ingebrigsten and Noah Lyles from the United States.
3,000m Steeplechase specialist Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco and popular Pole Vaulter Mondo Duplantis were also in contention.

According to the announcement on Monday night, December 5, Duplantis and American hurdler Sydney McLaughlin were crowned the best male and female athletes of the year, respectively.
“World champions and record-breakers Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Mondo Duplantis have been named the World Athletes of the Year. They were the final winners to be revealed as part of the World Athletics Awards 2022, along with the winners of the Rising Stars awards.
“McLaughlin-Levrone and Duplantis – winners of the Rising Stars awards just four years ago – broke the world records in their respective disciplines on more than one occasion this year,” read part of the statement from the World Athletics.
Duplantis bagged the award because he was unmatchable in the events he participated in during the congested season.
The 23-year-old won 18 out of the 19 competitions he graced - no other male athlete came close to achieving that incredible feat.
He also broke six world records and registered jumps higher than six meters more than 23 times.
Kipchoge, on the other hand, was the favourite to clinch the award because of his superb performances in road races this year.
The Kaptagat-based runner broke his own world record and came close to becoming the first human to run a race in under two hours.
At the BMW Berlin Marathon, staged on Sunday, September 25, Kipchoge lowered his world record from 02:01.39 to 02:01.09.
In addition, he won the Tokyo Marathon title ahead of his compatriot Amos Kipruto.
