FIFA Releases Integrity Report on 2022 Qatar World Cup

The multi-stakeholder Integrity Task Force established by FIFA released a statement on Friday, December 23, about the integrity of the 2022 FIFA World Cup staged in Qatar.

FIFA taskforce's report provided details of all matches played during the FIFA World Cup 2022, including alleged cases of match-manipulation.

According to the report, the entire tournament was free of subterfuges or any integrity-related issues.

"The multi-stakeholder Integrity Task Force established by FIFA to monitor all matches played during the FIFA World Cup 2022 for match-manipulation incidents and integrity-related issues successfully completed its work on 22 December 2022. No cases were identified.

The Task Force analysed monitoring reports of legal betting markets, and concluded that the 2022 Qatar World Cup the best if not one of the best tournaments.  

"As part of its work, the Task Force analyzed monitoring reports of legal betting markets, conducted multi-jurisdictional inquiries, and reviewed surveillance of competition venues for any suspicious behavior. 

"No match manipulation threats to any game that was played during the tournament were detected,” part of the statement from FIFA read. 

It also announced that it would continue working with member federations to safeguard the sport from trickeries. 

"Looking forward, FIFA will continue to work with the members of the Integrity Task Force with a view to protecting future FIFA tournaments, starting with the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. 

"It will also continue to develop its integrity strategies with confederations, member associations, and other integrity stakeholders in the fight against match manipulation,” the statement ended.

Argentina was declared the champion of the hugely successful tournament after beating 2018 winners France on penalties.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez played an influential role in the match to help the South Americans lift their third title. 

The La Albiceleste previously clinched the coveted title in 1978, and 1986.
