FIFA 23 to Feature One African Club

EA has announced a number of new partnerships with clubs that will feature in the much-awaited FIFA 23. 

South African club Mamelodi Sundowns announced their deal on Friday, August 26, signifying that it would be the only African club in the game. 

FIFA 23, will be launched on September 30, 2022.

Mamelodi Sundowns chairman, Tlhopie Motsepe, thanked EA sports and Roc Nation Sports for facilitating their inclusion on the game. 

He also added that the FIFA video game has united the world and also exposed African gamers to the world.  

“Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club is delighted to be part of the EA Sports roster of teams and is humbled to represent our continent in the latest edition of FIFA 23. 

“For the longest time, supporters of South African football have pleaded with us to get the team included on the platform. Now, we can finally give gamers the chance to play as The Brazilians of Africa, Bafana Ba Style (The Boys with Style) and take on the best clubs in global football,’ part of his statement read. 

Roc Nation Sports International was key in facilitating the partnership between the South African Champions and EA sports. 

Michael Yormark the president of Roc Nation Sports International, congratulated Mamelodi for their new achievement. 

“This is yet another hugely significant moment in the history of the Mamelodi Sundowns Football club. 

“When Roc Nation Sports International first teamed up with Sundowns in a dynamic collaboration last year, we were committed to amplifying the club’s inspiring story as a team that truly embodies their motto ‘The Sky is the Limit'.

"This partnership with EA Sports is yet another testament to this club mantra. Congratulations to Sundowns and all of their supporters,” Michael Yormark stated. 

Previously EA announced the comeback of Italian club Juventus and the 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia in FIFA 23. 

English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur is also one of the biggest teams to join in a partnership with EA. Other clubs like Celtic and Rangers FC have also acquired licenses for the game. 

Some of the new stadiums added to the video game include Juventus’ Allianz Stadium, LA’s Bank of California Stadium, SC Freiburg’s Europa-Park Stadion, and Manchester City Women’s Academy Stadium.
