East Africa is known globally for producing athletic superstars. From the likes of the Ethiopian legend Haile Gebrselassie to the majestic Kipchoge Keino.
However, Eliud Kipchoge is perhaps the greatest road race runner to ever emerge from the region.
The 37-year-old has arguably achieved everything there is to attain in the competitive field of marathon running. However, two major marathon titles have eluded him in his career.
Kipchoge has won four of the six Abbott World Marathon Majors (AWMS), one of the few athletes to do so.

He has won both the BWM Berlin Marathon and London Marathon four times. He has also added the Chicago and Tokyo Marathon to his trophy-laden cabinet.

Boston Marathon
Eliud Kipchoge announced earlier this year that he is going to grace the 2023 Boston Marathon, slated for Monday, April 17.
Perhaps the main reason he finally decided to run in Boston is that he wants to add the title to his WMS locker room.
In a statement released by the organizers on Thursday, December 1, 2022, Kipchoge stated that he is happy to open a novel in his WMS chapter.
“I am happy to announce in April I will compete in the Boston Marathon, a new chapter in my Abbott World Marathon Majors journey,” Kipchoge stated. “Good luck to all the runners running Boston in 2023,” he ended.
In the streets of Boston, the current world record holder will square it out with compatriots Evans Chebet and Benson Kipruto.
Ethiopian runner Lelisa Desisa, who has won the event twice will also be in contention.
New York City Marathon
Kipchoge has never participated in New York City Marathon, this might be the reason he is yet to appear on the podium.
However, he still has enough time to prepare and finally run away with the prestigious title.
The 2023 New York City Marathon is scheduled to take place on Sunday, November 5, 2023.
Should Kipchoge clinch the Boston and New York City Marathon titles, he would be the first human being to win all six WMS marathon titles.
An achievement that is likely to take many years to match.
