
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has backed Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba's call to have the involvement of both the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) in the fight against doping.
Speaking in a public gathering in Nandi on Tuesday, December 27, Cherargei noted that it should not be the athletes only getting banned but those that administer the drugs.
“I want to ask the DCI and EACC, these people administering drugs to our athletes should be arrested even if it is a coach or anyone else.

“Let us not only ban sportsmen and let us also go after those who gave them the drugs, the pharmacies that sold these drugs, and those who transported the substance,”Cherargei stated.
Cherargei added that he was aware of foreign coaches who come into the country using tourism visas and mislead athletes with the banned substances.
He highlighted that afterward when athletes are tested they test positive without knowing what is the cause however it is too late.
The Senator warned upcoming athletes against indulging in doping, noting that the vice possessed a threat to their careers.
Recently two Kenyans, Purity Cherotich Rionoripo and Diana Chemtai Kipyokei, were slapped with five- and six-year bans respectively.
Kenya escaped a possible ban from the World Athletics due to the increase in the number of doping cases.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has in the past retaliated that his ministry would propose a bill where they will categorize the prohibited substances together with hard drugs.
