Belgium has failed to end 2022 at the top of the FIFA World Ranking for the first time since 2018.

The Red Devils finished the year fourth behind France, Argentina and Brazil respectively.

Brazil finished top of Argentina despite the latter winning the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

“For the first time since 2018, the calendar year will draw to a close with a team other than Belgium sitting at the top of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking,” a statement from FIFA read.

Belgium failed to advance past their group at the World Cup in Qatar registering only a single win against Canada.

Brazil occupied the top spot in March 2022 and concluded the year at the helm five years after relinquishing the position.

In the year under review, the Selecao won 10 of their 13 matches, drawing one and losing two, with both defeats coming during the 2022 World Cup.

Morocco's outstanding performance at the 2022 World Cup saw the country close to registering a best-ever place.

The Atlas Lions finished 2022 in 11th place one point shy of their best-ever placing which happened in April 1998.

Morocco made history in Qatar as it became the first African nation to reach the semi-finals at the quadrennial tournament.

A 2-1 defeat to Croatia meant that the African nation finished fourth at the 2022 world football tournament.
