Kipchoge to Lead 14 Elite Athletes at Boston Marathon

Olympic gold medalist Eliud Kipchoge is set to lead an elite field of 15 men set to compete at the 2023 Boston marathon.

In an announcement made on Thursday, January 11, 2023, the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) announced that 15 men in the race have run under 2:07 in the marathon. 

Some of the top athletes in the race include Eliud Kipchoge (Marathon record holder), reigning Boston Marathon champion Evans Chebet, 2021 winner Benson Kipruto, and two-time champion Lelisa Desisa.

Also, a top name in the field is Tanzanian national record holder Gabriel Geay, who finished runner-up at the Valencia Marathon in December 2022. 

Geay finished fourth at the 2022 Boston Marathon and expressed excitement to return hoping for a successful race. 

2021 New York City Marathon Champion Albert Korir will also be part of the race with a personal best time of 2:08:03. 

Ethiopia's and 2020 London Marathon champion Shura Kitata is a name to look out for with a personal best of 2:04:49. 

Making his debut will be Brazilian Olympian and national record holder Daniel Do Nascimento who has a personal best time of 2:04:51. 

Ghirmay Ghebreslassie from Eritrea will also be making his Boston Marathon debut. 

The 127th Boston Marathon will be held on Monday, April 17, 2023, with 30,000 participants.
