11 Kenyans Set for Berlin Marathon

Sheila Chepkirui leads a group of 11 Kenyan athletes set to battle at the Boston Marathon 2023, on April 17. 

Considered to be one of the oldest road races in the world, the Boston Marathon will have 91 athletes from 18 countries participating. 

In the women's elite field, 16 women have run the marathon in under 2 hours and 21 minutes.

Kenya's Sheila Chepkirui who is making her debut at the Boston Marathon leads her compatriots with a time of 2:17:29. 

Ethiopia’s Amane Beriso leads the entire women's field with a time of 2:14:58. 

Joyciline Jepkosgei is making her comeback at the Boston Marathon and is the third fastest athlete on the list with a time of 2:17:43. 

The 2022 Ney York Marathon Champion is another top name in the field with a personal best time of 2:23:23. 

Making a return will be the 2022 edition third-place finisher Mary Ngugi who has a personal best of 2:20:22.

2017 and 2021 Boston Marathon champion Edna Kiplagat is also a participant with a personal best time of 2:19:50. 

2022 Bogota Half Marathon champion Angela Tanui is among the top five athletes on the field with a personal best of 2:17:57. 

Fancy Chemutai hopes to improve on her personal best of 2:18:11 set at the Valencia Marathon on December 4, 2022. 

Other Kenyan participants include Celestine Chepchirchir, Maurine Chepkemoi, Vivian Chepkirui, and Viola Cheptoo.
