British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) issued an apology after sexual noises were heard during the live television coverage of the FA Cup.

The pornographic noises were heard while BBC presenter Gary Linker was on air during the third-round replay between Liverpool and Wolves on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

"We apologise to any viewers offended during the live coverage of the football this evening," read a statement from the BBC.

Later through his social Lineker posted a photo of a taped mobile phone terming the incident as a prank.

"As pranks go, this was bloody hilarious," Liniker posted on Instagram.

Lineker tried to laugh off the incident as he presented alongside pundits Paul Ince and Danny Murphy.

During the coverage as Lineker was cutting to former England striker Alan Shearer in the commentary gantry, he questioned whether the viewers back at home heard anything.

"Somebody's sending something on someone's phone, I think. I don't know whether you heard it at home," Lineker stated.

When the match started, he shared a picture of a mobile phone on Twitter and three laughing emojis alongside the words: "Well, we found this taped to the back of the set."

The drama did not end there as a blackout was experienced at Molineux Stadium when the floodlights went off in the first minute of the match as Wolves winger Adama Traore attempted to cross the ball.

However, after a few seconds, the lights were back and the match continued.

The match ended with a 1-0 win to Liverpool thanks to a screamer from 19-year-old Harvey Eliot.

Liverpool will face Brighton in the fourth round of the FA cup on Sunday, January 29, 2023.
