Former Newcastle and Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton has replaced Nana Otto Addo as the Black Stars manager.

Hughton was among Ghana’s assistant coaches during the 2022 FIFA World Cup held in Qatar.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) released a statement on Tuesday night, February 13, 2023, confirming his appointment.

“The Ghana Football Association has the pleasure to appoint Chris Hughton as Head Coach of the Black Stars following extensive deliberations between the two parties.

“The appointment is in line with the vision of the GFA to continue with the project of building a formidable squad that started with Otto Addo in the lead-up to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament,” part of the statement from GFA read.

GFA further stated that Mas-Ud Didi Dramani and George Boateng would maintain their positions as Black Stars assistant coaches.

However, the contact details of the three tacticians are yet to be made public.

Hughton’s appointment makes him one of the most experienced coaches on the continent.

The gaffer, who was born in England, previously managed some of the top European clubs including Norwich City, Birmingham City and Nottingham Forest.

Moreover, Hughton has had caretaker stints with the London-based side Tottenham Hotspur and the Republic of Ireland’s national team.

Despite his impressive curriculum vitae, the one-time Brentford and West Ham United full-back will have a huge task ahead of him.

The Black Stars have been registering under-par performances in recent years and his first job would be getting the West African nation back to winning ways.
