Gor Mahia’s late surge in form has suddenly blown up the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League with the title race now open to the first four team in the log.

A 1-0 win over Wazito FC on Monday afternoon at the Utalii Grounds clearly sent shivers to the teams that  are above them on the log.

AFC Leopards and KCB lost ground in the title hunt over the weekend after both losing their  respective matches. KCB lost 1-0 at home to Sofapaka with Ingwe getting a 3-1 mauling by Bidco United on Sunday. Tusker FC who were winless in three went to the summit of the league table on Sunday after beating Vihiga United 4-0 at the Mumias Sports Complex,

The mixed results gave Gor Mahia an advantage as they prepared to face Francis Kimanzi’s Wazito and when they did so, they managed to pick their 5th win in a row, a record that they had not kept for the better part of the season. K’Ogalo are now five points(31) behind Ingwe (36) and seven behind leaders Tusker(38) with a game in hand.

The close contest at Utalii was decided when Burundian Jules Ulimwengu on as a second half substitute scored the sole goal in the 82nd minute to earn Gor the three vital points.

The 19-time Kenya champions Gor were however reduced to ten men after Samwel Onyango was given matching orders in stoppage time for unsporting behavior. He even went ahead to have a banana snack in front of the cameras.
