The possibility of Man City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne playing for Belgium in the European Championship remains unclear as he is currently recovering from facial fractures, coach Roberto Martinez has confirmed.

The midfield talisman broke his nose and eye socket in a clash in the Champions League final last weekend but it would be days before Belgium were clear about his chances of competing, Martinez told reporters.

The Belgian international had been scheduled to join up with the national team squad just days before their opening Group B match against Russia in St Petersburg on June 13 after a long club season with the Cityzens, culminating in last Saturday, May 29, Champions League final.

But his participation is  still in doubt after an accidental clash with Antonio Rudiger of Chelsea forced him from the field and left him with the fractures after the Champions league clash.

Belgium will go on to face Denmark and Finland in their Group B fixtures of the European Championship.

Martinez's men have two friendlies to take in before competitive action gets underway, with home dates against Greece and Croatia fast approaching.

De Bruyne is unlikely to figure in either of those contests as similar worries to fellow teammate Eden Hazard who has been prone to injuries during his club duty with Spanish Giants Real Madrid.

De Bruyne's assessment would be conducted and by next week a solid conclusion by the medical team would have been made on whether the midfielder would take part in the Euros.
