Celebrated former boxer Conjestina Achieng has set her house ablaze in Gem Yala, Siaya, burning all her clothes and other household items citing frustrations and stress.
According to her mother Auma, Conjestina told her how she had been defending some boxing titles, the match was massive, and they played until the house got burnt.
However, Auma took the matter lightly because she was used to the former boxer talking to herself. This is also because Conjestina had been in and out of mental hospital since 2011; however, according to the mother, her condition had not improved.
Auma took the matter seriously when her daughter kept on insisting that she set her house on fire, and she should go check it out.
“When I arrived at her house, I found that she had burnt all her clothes, the fire did not spread to the entire house,” she said.
Due to her mental problems, the 44-year-old then turned to her mother accusing her of burning her house.
“She started shouting at me that I was the one who burnt her clothes, and I did not know what to do,” she said.
When the 43-year-old former WIBF Middleweight champion’s health deteriorated, her parents sent an appeal to Kenyans to help them take their daughter to hospital.
Among those who came to her rescue was former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
Conjestina was airlifted from Siaya to Nairobi where she was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder also known as paranoid schizophrenia.
The last time Conjestina was seen in high spirits was back in March 2019 when she made an appearance during Fatuma Zarika’s boxing match against Catherine Phiri a Zambian.
