Harambee Stars forward, Cliff Nyakeya has made a return to the FKF Premier League joining Wazito FC from Egyptian side Al Masr. The 26 year old reunites with head coach Francis Kimanzi who mentored him back in 2018 at Mathare United.
Nyakeya ended his 2-year association with the Egyptian outfit after enduring some turbulent times with the side. Nyakeya joined the side back in July 2019 after an outstanding season with Mathare United where he bagged 14 goals just three shy of top scorers, Enosh Ochieng, Allan Wanga and Umaru Kasumba.
Masr failed to secure promotion back into the Egyptian Premier League after suffering relegation from the top-flight in the 2019-2020 season. Nyakeya aided the club to a ninth-place finish in the league following an inconsistent season that saw them win nine, draw on 12 occasions and lose nine games. Nyakeya had to endure salary delays at FC Masr and the club has never worked on securing him a work permit to enable him travel and work easily in Egypt. These were the main reasons the highly-rated forward parted ways with the club. The 26-year-old bagged the Midfielder of the Year in the 2018 Kenyan Premier League award following another stellar season with Mathare United.
Wazito will also miss the services of skipper Bernard Ochieng who joins the newly promoted Abarminch City FC in the Ethiopian Premier League for a lucrative 2 year deal. Bernard was apparently an active member of the Afcon squad that featured in Egypt, (2019).
