Malkia Strikers are through to the Africa Nations Championship after beating Morocco in straight 3 sets ; S1 25-12, S2 25-21, S3 25-11. The record African champs await the outcome of the other semi final between Nigeria and defending champions Cameroon to know their opponent for the final. The Kenyans showed intent from the first whistle, knowing all too well that their quest was bigger than any other countries participating at the Championship more so after Rwanda got disqualified at the close of play getting replaced by Morocco.
The first set went to the Kenyans 25-12 but the North Africans returned for the second set ready to turn the tables on Malkia. The side led 3-1 but a quick turnaround by Bitok's charges saw them head to the first Technical Timeout (TTO) leading 8-4. The difference stretched to seven points at the second TTO as Kenya led 16-9.
As Morocco egded closer, head coach Paul Bitok substituted Sharon Chepchumba back in for Emmaculate Chemutai with Esther Mutinda back in setting duties in place of Joy Lusenaka. Veronica Adhiambo remained in play for Mercy Moim. With little errors and experience playing handy, Kenya went on to win the 3rd and final set 25-11, having launched witty attacks and monster blocks.
Malkia are out to dethrone Cameroon of the African Championship title that the latter won in 2019. The two teams have, in the recent past, traded wins, the latest being a 3-0 victory for the Cameroonians in the opening match of the ongoing championship.
