Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has opened the Safari Rally Europe office with the noble intention to promote Kenya and also the event itself as a major tourist destination.

Amina added that the Safari Rally is not only historic but also rich in heritage. " It is one of the greatest homegrown brands on the African continent, and one of the most recognisable globally," she noted. More to that, the project, which carries the “Drink Coffee-Plant Trees” slogan, also seeks to promote Kenyan coffee, and individual coffee farmers in Kenya as well as the Greening Legacy Project in Kenya which kick-started plans to plant 19 million trees.

The office was opened in Lahti, which is one of the greenest cities in the world. The European Commission has named Lahti as the European Green Capital of 2021. “Coffee is one of our biggest exports and agriculture accounts for 40 per cent of the Kenyan workforce. This project has the potential of shifting Kenya’s trade balance significantly. We are looking at a future of roasting coffee in Kenya, and giving the immediate dollar value to the farmer,” Amina went on.

Amina said that the 2021 European Green Capital initiative resonates well with the Greening Legacy and Kenyan coffee sales “thereby achieving the afforestation goals and our trade volumes”.
