President Kenyatta leads top politicians in rescuing AFC Leopards

AFC Leopards football club on Thursday received a big shot in the arm after key political leaders club members and fans held a fundraiser to help the ailing club offset the huge debts it has accrued in the last few seasons.

With a target of Ksh 6m on the night, Ingwe had  one mission, to raise at least that amount and they surpassed the target by raising Ksh 8, 068,000.

 H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta gave a personal contribution of Kshs 2m, club patron Hon. Musalia Mudavadi gave Kshs 1m,  Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga gave Kshs 1m,  Hon. Eugene Wamalwa and friends gave Kshs 1.1m, Hon. Amina Muhammed who gave Kshs 730,000, Kakamega County Governor  Hon. Oparanya gave Kshs 500,000, Westlands MP Hon. Tim Wanyonyi gave Kshs 400,000 and pledged to support the team with Kshs 100,000 every month for 12 months. 

Other leaders who contributed included.Chief Administrative Secretary, National Treasury and planning, Eric Simiyu Wafukho, who gave Kshs 100,000 ,Stanley Livondo who gave Kshs 120,000, CAS Omuhaka who gave Kshs 50 000, Hon. Wangwe who gave Kshs 50,000, Hon. Petronila Were who gave Kshs 10,000.

The 13-time Kenyan champions are currently serving a FIFA ban for failing to pay three of their former players and coach. The three are current Bandari FC head coach Andre Cassa Mbungo, Rwandese duo of Soter Kayumba and Vincent Habamahoro and Burundian midfielder, Tressor Ndikumana.
