World marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge will take part in the NN Mission Marathon scheduled to take place on Enschde, Netherlands on April 18.
The race that was scheduled to take place in Hamburg in March was postponed due to the COVID-19 restrictions in Germany.
The NN running team announced on Tuesday that all has been set for the event that will serve as Kipchoge’s chance to taste his fitness levels ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
It turns out that they needed less than a week to do so, though, as the NN Running Team announced the official change of venue on Tuesday. The race will now take place at Twente Airport, which is about 12K outside of Enschede.
The reigning Olympic champion ,Kipchoge is seeking to defend his title in Tokyo five years after he won gold at the summer games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
In October 2020, Kipchoge lost his invisible title to Ethiopia’s Shuru Kitata in the London Marathon.
Before the race four-time winner Kipchoge was the favourite, but fell behind with two laps to go and finished eighth.
Ethiopian Kitata pushed ahead of Kenya's Vincent Kipchumba on the home straight to finish in two hours five minutes and 41 seconds.
With all factors constant, Kipchoge will be seeking to redeem himself ahead of the Olympic games.
