
With the Kenya Basketball Federation 2021 playoffs less than two months away, we get to look at some of the most outstanding players in the rosters, primarily the top point guards in the league with regards to their breathtaking performances and unique talents. Let's dive in.
1: Natalie Akinyi- KPA (Kenya Ports Authority)
Sitting at the top position is Natty, the Kenya Lionesses guard who plays with amazing zeal. Natty is a strong guard with great passes and amazing court vision when it comes to creating plays for her teammates. She is good on defensive and a good shooter.
2: Debra Obunga-Zetech University
Debbie is a big guard with a good midrange jump shot. Her greatest strength lies in passing and creating plays. She is a great floor general, a good defender and loads of experience. She features for Zetech Sparks in the women’s premier league. Debby plays her game on both ends of the floor which makes her a tough match up for her opponents.
3: Samba Mjomba- Equity Hawks
When you talk of basketball IQ, Samba is the name you are looking for. She can shoot the ball well, create plays and control the game. She has been instrumental in the success of Equity Hawks, and we look forward to her leading the team to another title run.
4: Jemimah Omondi- Storms
Kenya Lionesses’ guard Mimmah, as she is known, adds more depth to Storms squad under coach Abel Nson. She has good ball control and is very instrumental on defense. She has good range on her shots, and can score the basketball as well as distribute the ball well to make plays for her teammates.
5: Liz Okumu- UON (University Of Nairobi)
Liz is a quick guard with a strong right hand dribble, which she uses well when attacking the basket. She uses her quickness to initiate fast breaks and to cause problems to her opponents defensively. She features for UON Dynamites. She has recently been called up to the Kenya Lionesses camp. Her input will be huge for the rejuvenated Lionesses.
6: Hilda Ndegwa- Equity Hawks
Dante is a wizard with the ball. She has the ability to control the game and is very comfortable with the ball. She is a great passer and makes her teammates look good. She can score in multiple ways and is a decent defender. She can also shoot the ball well. She is also in the Kenya Lionesses squad bringing that new energy needed in the squad.
7: Mary Lisa- Zetech University
Featuring for Zetech Sparks, she is projected to be one of the the best point guards in the coming seasons. She is a great point guard with good court vision and the ability to create for others. She plays her game on both ends of the floor and can easily control the game. With this type of talent we can comfortably say the future is indeed in great hands.
8: Sharon Odera- KU Oryx (Kenyatta University)
Aggressive guard with great handles and ball control. She is quick and very solid on on the break. Odera is a great passer who is good at making plays and a good shooter from the three point line. She is crafty with the ball and can finish in numerous ways. She can also defend well. Returning from injury, Sharon plays for KU Oryx who have won 6 out of 7 games when she suits up, she is a guard that is worth watching.
9: Caroline Njeri- Zetech University
She is a great passer who plays with a lot of flare and poise. Caroline Njeri Nduta has been around. She plays for Zetech Sparks adding some good depth for coach Obie. She can score well and her strength comes with shooting the basketball. You might not want to leave her open on the three point line because she is also very lethal.
10: Carol Akinyi- KPA (Kenya Ports Authority)
The KPA guard is lethal from the three-point line. Aggressive on defense and poised on offense. A smart passer who has that ability to create for her teammates. Her teammates say she has a great fighting spirit which definitely makes her an asset on the floor.
