Record champions Gor Mahia continued their unbeaten streak on Wednesday November 3 in the FKF Premier League as they were held to a goalless draw by Ulinzi Stars at the Thika County Stadium.
The draw ensured that Gor Mahia went on top of the league with 13 points after five matches with Bandari second with 12 points.
Gor Mahia came into the match with high confidence with four straight wins as they preserved their 100 percent record following previous wins over KCB, Sofapaka, AFC Leopards and Kariobangi Sharks.
Ulinzi, who were at position Five, climbed to fourth place with 11 points.
The game started at a slow pace as both teams played cautiously as they aimed to dominate possession.
In the 13th minute Gor Mahia had a chance to break the deadlock as Benson Amala headed a corner from his team mate John Macharia forcing a save by Ulinzi’s shot stoper James Saruni.
Omala five minutes later combined well with Burundian International Jules Ulimwengu with Ulinzi goalkeeper Saruni coming out to prevent a low cross from reaching Jules's feet.
In the 26th minute, Gor Mahia's defender, Philemon Otieno came close to scoring from a cross delivered by Yusuf Mainge as the defender failed to take the chance to get his header on target.
However, Ulinzi were able to create only one chance in the first half as Ulinzi's only chance in the last five minutes as Gor Mahia's goalkeeper Gad Mathews had an easy save from Ibrahim Shambi with both teams ending the half in a draw.
In the second half, both teams proved a menace to each other as there were few clear goal scoring chances in both ends of the field.
In the 80th minute Clinton Omondi whipped in a good corner finding Oscar Wamalwa on the far post but the strong forward had a difficult time in sorting out his feet enabling Gor’s defender Shakava to recover thus blocking his shot.
Ulinzi could get three points in the final extra time when Oscar Wamalwa crossed the ball to Masita Masuta, who missed the target with his shot, allowing the match to end in a goalless draw.
