After qualifying for the Champions League in eight years AC Milan’s chance to proceed to the last 16 round grew thinner on Wednesday night after a 1-1 draw with FC Porto.
This was the first Champions League point of the season for the Seven-time European Champions who had lost their last three fixtures in the competition.
Milan's exit was saved as Liverpool defeated Spanish side Atletico Madrid in a match that ended 2-0.
Porto striker Luis Diaz put his team to a lead in the sixth minutes as they dominated the first half against a struggling AC Milan.
AC Milan into the second half were able to bag a goal as Porto’s Chancel Mbemba netted an own goal, leveling the score.
The Italian side pressed for another goal but Zlatan Ibrahimovic's goal was ruled out for offside.
Ibrahimovic’s introduction in the final 15 minutes brought a change in the game but his efforts were not enough to secure a win for his side.
After the match AC Milan forward Olivier Giroud told the press that the team was facing a challenge as many of their players are not experienced in the champions league.
“It's tough against teams who are used to Champions League football like Porto or Atletico. Experience is important," Olivier Giroud told the press.
“We are a young team but I don't want to make excuses. We also needed a little more luck. We have played some good matches,” Giroud added.
It is the first time in Milan´s history that they have failed to win any of their opening four Champions League games.
Milan have a chance though to get into the Europa league if they can win their two remaining games against Atletico Madrid and Liverpool.
