World marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge now has his eyes set on the Tokyo Olympics that are set to take place in July .This came after the iconic marathoner bagged a win at the NN Mission Marathon in Enschede Netherlands.

Eliud Kipchoge came back on the racing track for the first time after a poor performance which saw him come in eighth place at the London Marathon last year.

Kipchoge also narrated that the NN Mission marathon was a real test and a necessary preparation for the task ahead in Tokyo and that he is now putting himself in shape for the summer games .

The Olympics marathon champion clocked 2:04:30 to finish first ahead of training partner, Jonathan Korir, who timed second in 2:06:40 with Eritrean Goitom Kifle ,  third in 2:08:00 and he termed his yesterday's performance in Enschede as an accomplished mission as it was a good gesture in reflecting his intense preparations that he had during the pandemic.

Kipchoge said he is feeling confident and relieved following the win after some setbacks that cost him a third London Marathon at last year's event in which Ethiopia's Shura Kitata clinched first place.

Kipchoge is part of the four-man team named by Athletics Kenya to lead the country's charge for a podium finish at the Olympics where he seeks to earn his second Olympic gold medal.

Other members of the team include Boston Marathon champion Lawrence Cherono, Vincent Kipchumba and world marathon bronze medalist Amos Kipruto.
