
Kenya’s Vihiga Queens FC have a chance to make it to the semifinals of the ongoing TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League when they take on Nigeria’s Rivers Angels
Charles Okere’s Vihiga are currently second in the group behind Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, the only team to secure all the six points after two matches in the competition.
Okere knows that complacency might cost his team a great deal and called for calm and caution against the team that has lost twice on a trot
are a strong team, his team must approach the match like a final.
“We need to score as many goals as possible to be able to get to the semi-final stage,” said Okere.
The Rivers Angels coach Edwin Okon who’s team is yet to score or gain a point in the tournament is hopeful of a better show by his team against the more fancied East Africans.
“We lost the first two matches, but everything is possible in football. We can win and with a big goal difference, we just need the match to go as we plan,” he added.
Deborah Abiodun Ajibola, the midfielder for the Nigerian side said they are still hopeful of getting a good result. “We still have hope to win this and fight over the semifinal qualification,” added Ajibola.
After losing 1-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies (South Africa), Vihiga Queens revived their hopes with a 2-0 win against ASFAR FC (Morocco).
Already Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies FC and Malabo Kings (Equatorial Guinea) have qualified from Group A for the semi-finals. The semi final matches will be played on November 15th.
