FIFA through the Secretary General Fatma Samoura has penned down a letter detailing its position on the current situation of football in the country. The Football governing body has emphasized on the importance of the managing board (The FKF) being solely independent and no interference from any entity including the government itself should be encouraged.

"I have also been made aware of the appointment by your office of a so-called “Caretaker Committee”, together with its own secretariat, in lieu of the elected FKF Executive Committee whose President has been arrested. Furthermore, I have been informed that the FKF premises currently seem to be no longer under the control of the FKF General Secretary and football competitions under the umbrella of the FKF have apparently been suspended for a two-week period."Read the letter.

"FIFA understands the important role of your office in ensuring that sport bodies in Kenya comply with the relevant applicable national laws. As a matter of fact, FIFA did attempt to understand the situation presented to its administration at the end of 2019, taking into account the role of the Sports Registrar in view of the Sports Act. In this respect, FIFA has always kept an open-door policy to discuss any issue or concern that may affect football at national level."

"This being said, I wish to draw your attention to a letter sent by FIFA’s Chief Member Associations Officer to the FKF General Secretary on 11 November 2021 (enclosed hereto for ease of reference). In particular, I must highlight that the appointment of a so-called “Caretaker Committee” by your office is undoubtedly contrary to our principles according to which all of our member associations, including the FKF, are required to manage their affairs independently and without undue influence of any third parties (cf. art. 14 par. 1 lit. i) and art. 19 par. 1 of FIFA Statutes). This situation could therefore potentially lead."The letter summed up.

Last week on Friday afternoon, detectives from the serious crimes unit of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations nabbed Mwendwa as he attempted to visit the Harambee Stars in their camp at Nairobi hotel and whisked him to Kiambu Road for questioning before locking him up overnight at Gigiri Police Station.

The regime, led by controversial head Nick Mwendwa, has been accused of many vices including funds misappropriation. The new committee will be in place for six months before overseeing fresh elections to usher in new officials. After taking over, the interim committee went on to temporarily suspend the domestic leagues to work on regularisation and the former AFC Leopards player believes it was unnecessary.
