Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier on Tuesday hosted Mesut Ozil’s agent Erkut Sogut who is in the country for a series of sports seminars.
Rachier gifted Ozil a brand new Gor Mahia FC jersey but what caught the eye most was the A4 printing at the back of the green home jersey.
Sogut seemingly amused gleefully accepted the gift on behalf of the former German international now plying his trade with Turkish giants Fenerbahçe.
The jersey had Ozil’s name printed on paper and strapped on the back unlike the usual jersey printing, something which caused an uproar on social media.
The club came under fire for the manner in which the name and number was printed on the jersey.
“This is Pathetic from the most successful club in Kenya,” one twitter user noted.
“How long does it take to brand a jersey?” another comment read
“Seems Özil’s name was printed out on an A4 sheet,” another user noted.
Sogut on the other hand presented playing kits and equipment to Gor Mahia youth team at Camp Toyoyo before proceeding to a lecture on player agents at Hemingway's hotel, Karen.
Rachier on his side said there are plans to schedule a friendly game between Gor Mahia and Fenerbahçe, Ozil’s current club in Turkey.
In May 2019, the former Real Madrid and Arsenal man gifted jerseys and boots to a group of boys in Nairobi after their colleague Lawrence Masira was spotted wearing a homemade Ozil shirt while herding cattle in the streets of Nairobi.
