Gor Mahia have suffered yet another blow after two players were detained in Congo as a result of Covid-19.
Gor had travelled to Congo for their first leg playoff tie in the Caf Confederation Cup away to Otoho d'Oyo a match they lost by a solitary goal.
The record Kenyan champions had to do with just 15 players in the squad as they travelled to Brazzaville and now they'll have to prepare for the return leg with 13 as the rest of the squad has not been cleared to feature in the Caf second tier competition.
According to a statement by the club, while in Congo two of Gor Mahia's players tested positive for the Covid-19 and will be forced to Quarantine in Congo before travelling back to Kenya.
“Our two players (Jules Ulimwengu & John Ochieng) who 'tested' positive for Covid-19 in Congo will be in quarantine for 8 days before being allowed to travel back to Nairobi, Sporting Director Lordvick Aduda who is with them confirms,” the club statement read.
The two players will most likely miss the match as the second leg is scheduled to take place on December 5 as the players will be in quarantine for a period of eight days.
The fate of the return clash in Nairobi still hangs in the balance after the chief executive officer of the ousted Football Kenya Federation, Barry Otieno, wrote to Caf on Tuesday saying the decision by the government to appoint a caretaker committee had made it difficult for them to organise the event.
The absence of the players will be a huge blow to K’Ogalo, who will be keen to overturn the 1-0 defeat suffered in the first leg.
The aggregate winner will advance to the group stage of the annual competition.Gor Mahia last made the stage in 2019 where they reached the quarterfinals.
