Henry Meja has been unveiled at Swedish club, AIK where he will don jersey number 30 and has opted for his surname Atola and not family name Meja at the back.

The Swedish side AIK Football had on September 4, 2021 announced the signing of Kenyan international Henry Meja from Tusker FC.

The striker however could not join the side immediately as he had to acquire a work permit first but still would not be ready to play until January when the Swedish transfer window opened.

Meja joins AIK from Tusker on a five-year contract, keeping him at the Swedish club until September 1, 2026.

Meja will share the changing room with his Harambee stars teammate Eric Ouma ‘Marcelo’, who has plied his trade with the Swedish top tier side for three years now.

"I am very happy that I get this opportunity. AIK as a club suits me perfectly and I have got a great impression of everyone I have met.

"It's also fun to play with Erick Otieno. Now I look forward to showing what I can to my teammates and the club's supporters," Meja stated.

Meja scored 12 goals and provided 5 assists in 22 matches in Kenya Premier League last season.

On their part, AIK's sports director, Henrik Jurelius, explained their reason for signing the youngster who had only played for one season with the Tusker.

"Henry is a talented player that we hope to be able to refine to our direction.

"We have signed an agreement where we want to work for the long term and are well aware that it is a big process and a longer acclimatisation period that awaits," Jurelius stated.
